The University of Arizona conducted a test on shopping carts
and found that 21% had bodily fluids on the handles.
Every time a shopping cart is used, it’s exposed to bacteria and
germs from sources like meat products in leaky packages, infants with dirty
diapers and illnesses from the general population.
Healthy Decisions, Enhancing the Shopping Experience
Recent studies at the Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention reports “there
are over one million germs on shopping cart handles.”
- Shopping carts have been found to be contaminated with urine, blood,
mucus and excrement from baby diapers, as well as meat, poultry and egg
drippings.
- The possibility of bacteria and viruses from these and other matters
puts consumers at risk for E. coli, staphylococcus, salmonella, influenza
and other dangerous diseases.
- With their concern over the legions of germs in public places, the shopping
public is open to solutions.
